Jialuohu 2, Yilan County – 加羅湖
September 20, 2010 by Stu
I recently took another trip to the remote mountain lake, Jialuohu 加羅湖 with Neil again. This was our second trip here and both times have been fantastic. Won’t write too much about the actual hike. Anyone looking for details can find them on my original post – Jialuohu
Here’s a few photos from the trip.
More photos from Neil here.
Jialuohu early morning
The giant redwood that marks the beginning of the climb to Jialuohu
Crawling under a giant tree on the way to another lake
Sliding, crawling and falling our way down a steep, dry river to another lake
- The second lake, a very beautiful place, especially when the mist rolls in and out
Fighting our way through the thick silver grass, long sleeves recommended!
The stars at night were incredible.
Jialuohu early morning mist
The sun rises above the mountains
My first attempt at a panorama. Thanks to Neil for his post about this earlier.

I think I met you guys in 加羅湖 in Sep, 2010!!!!!
Really? That’s interesting! I go there a lot normally but this year I haven’t had too many chances
Ha, don’t know if you remember. We are two girls and camped at the farthest place away from the lake.
oh…I don’t know why my post become your name…….
Ok. it’s strange. My message is gone!!! I just want to say My friend and I are two girls and we camped at the farthest place away from the Jialuo lake.
I remember now! That morning at the lake was beautiful.
Yes! The first night had showers, but became a clear day in the morning. Ha…it’s interesting to see your blog when I was searching for the information about the Holy Ridge. Your photos are awesome. I can’t believe you can figure out how to apply for the permit of huts and park entries. For me, it’s complicated, too.
Yes, it’s very complicated. It used to take me a long time to apply but now I know the system and can do it quite quickly. So you’re going to do the Holy Ridge? It’s fantastic but very scary!
Hi! Stu,
My friend and I just did the Holy Ridge and 大劍山 in 6 days.
If you have time, you can see the record in my blog.
Looks great! I’m very jealous!
